To mark 20 years since the “Miracle of Istanbul”, Liverpool FC and 1PointFive launched a world-first commemorative shirt whose carbon footprint is measured — and then removed. CarbonSig calculated the product carbon footprint behind it.
- The challenge
- Create a special-edition jersey whose carbon impact is credibly measured and then fully addressed: a world-first for football merchandise.
- What CarbonSig did
- Emissions data was collected and visualised across the supply chain using CarbonSig, and a life-cycle assessment in accordance with ISO 14067 estimated each product’s carbon footprint (PCF).
- The outcome
- Each shirt’s measured footprint is removed by an equivalent amount of CO₂ through 1PointFive’s Direct Air Capture technology. Liverpool FC joined organisations including Microsoft, Amazon and Airbus in using 1PointFive carbon removal.

Not a one-off. The collaboration continues, product by product.
In 2026 Liverpool FC extended the programme to two new plush toys, Mighty Red and Red Ted. LFC uses CarbonSig to track its products’ emissions.

Modelled in CarbonSig
Both toys were modelled in CarbonSig from primary data. LFC reports this was done in accordance with ISO 14067:2018, ISO 14040/44 and the GHG Protocol Product Standard.
Bureau Veritas UK review
Bureau Veritas UK carried out an independent critical review, with limited assurance, through the CarbonSig verification portal.
Serialized Carbon Receipts
CarbonSig provides serialized Carbon Receipts for the purchased items.
Carbon dioxide removal credits from 1PointFive add less than £1 to the manufacturing cost of each toy. LFC absorbs it, so it isn’t added to the price.
